Fall creek Falls
Love me some rain and love me some golf. Keeps the jackasses out of the woods!
I was ecstatic to be able to stop in the middle of the road to make images without the fear of getting hit by tourist's cars yesterday! Why? It was raining. NOBODY around-it was lovely! Compared to the folks that think they own the site you're shooting. Like the guy who waded out in front of a waterfall a few weeks ago to get a snapshot with his camera phone. Lovely sight of a half naked man who was also half cold!
Anyway-trust me on this. Rain and golf keep the jackasses out of the woods.
Perfect example-3 hikes in 1 day and saw 3 people. A dad and his 2 kids on a 90 yard walk to Piney Falls in historic Fall Creek Falls State Park. That was it. Rain! What a lovely thing.

Piney Falls
I drove the park circle several times to wait for the rain to stop as 2:00 was the weather channel's estimate. It didn't stop till nearly 3:00. The weatherman-sheesh! Regardless, it was fun making the adjustments. Traveling back and forth for the lenses you really needed and didn't bring with you the first time. Uhgg! Lesson learned.
Rain keeps the people away but it also makes your decisions more complicated. Who wants to change lenses in the rain with an umbrella. Make sure you bring at least 16-300mm with you! Just a safe bet. Didn't feel like returning for the 300mm on this one but I think the 105mm captured this just fine.

Buzzard's Roost
Then, when you find the shot-no kids, no newly weds, no engagement shots, no golfers; just you and the camera, the lens, the tripod, and the composition and you click it and you know you got it, you rush away with your umbrella and pack your gear in the car. Suddenly, you realize you can't feel your fingers from the cold. The cold from the wind, the cold from the metal legs of the tripod, the cold from the day itself. But when you chimp in the car, in the heat, and they look good, you feel good about the hike wether its 100 yards or 3 miles! A 3 miler is tuff when the ranger station presses you to be out by sunset and you start 2 hours from sunset to admire the beauty as well as shoot it.
Savage Falls
This was the 3 mile huff-it-hike. Booked it in and booked it out! Low water, even in the rain. The pool was special in that it had debris floating in the front. I like the "eddie" movement displayed by the 15 second exposure. Just wished I could have spent more time there but I was lost. Lost for time and lost in the beauty! Didn't want to keep the rangers worrying since my cell phone time clock was void and didn't know the time.
Definitely recommend this water fall during a heavy rain in the Fall. Spring would probably be best-late March early April, when the leaves start to bloom and the water is flowing! There's a shoot that performs at the lower left that makes this fall a wonder.
Bon Chance!
